The BIOM® 5 is the ideal complement to the SDI® (Stereoscopic Diagonal Inverter). The BIOM® 5 enables wide-angle observation of the fundus during vitreous surgery. The observation unit BIOM® can be mounted in a matter of seconds and can be swung into the beam path when needed.

The new OCULUS WiFi HD lens is designed to provide superior clarity with wide-angle viewing. This unique design also provides high definition during high magnification, reducing the necessity of a separate lens for macula work.
BIOM® 5c/5cl (with electronic focus)

The convenience of automatic inversion provided by the SDI® 4c ensures the surgeon's view is always orientated properly.
When used with the SDI® 4c, the BIOM® 5cl offers the convenience of electronic foot pedal focusing and intelligent and automatic image inversion.
Efficiency meets function
Surgeons appreciate the easy handling of the new BIOM® 5. While observing the vitreous and the fundus, the BIOM® 5 is aligned coaxially with the operating microscope. During extraocular phases of surgery, it is swung out of the observation beam while the inverting action of the SDI® is neutralized: automatically, by a surgeon controlled footswitch, or manually.

FAQs
Die Technik der Placido-Topographie beruht auf dem Spiegelbild der Placidoringe im Tränenfilm des untersuchten Auges. Damit setzt sie einen stabilen Tränenfilm voraus. Hinzu kommt, dass die Placido-Topographie eine zentral angeordnete Kamera erfordert. Damit können aber gerade die zentrumsnahen Ringe nicht auf die Kamera zurückprojiziert werden. Folglich kann der (für die Messung eigentlich wichtigste) zentrale Bereich nicht direkt gemessen, sondern muss extrapoliert werden. Schließlich liefert die Placido-Topographie nur Informationen über die Vorderfläche der Hornhaut.
Bei der Pentacam® kommt die Scheimpflug-Technik zum Einsatz. Scheimpflug-Bilder werden durch die Qualität des Tränenfilms nicht beeinflusst, die Daten der zentralen Hornhaut werden nicht extrapoliert sondern gemessen und es werden Daten sowohl der Vorder- als auch der Rückfläche berechnet. Klinische Studien belegen, dass eine Einbeziehung der Placido-Technik für Pentacam® Messungen keinen Vorteil bringen würde.
